A CAREER COME TRUE

Why Care is the sector to work for in 2021

“I chose care because I love looking after people. I got into this job and I am enjoying what I am doing. And I can see that most of the clients that I personally have appreciate what I give, my services and what I do. That is why I don’t have any complaints and I don’t have any issues since I started,” says Ms. Taweiu Ibrahim-Cole, one of our star carers who has been with Eleanor for more than a half a decade.

Immense Job Satisfaction

Ms. Ibrahim-Cole’s choice was not accidental. She switched careers after working for 18 years in Southern Railways. She knows how difficult it can be to work at a job where your contributions get buried under the daily rituals of the work.

Not so, when you are carer.

A carer simply cannot go through the movements of the job. A carer touches – literally – and transforms people’s lives each day and each moment they are at work. When you help someone get up and walk, when you listen to a deeply personal and long-forgotten story, when you hold a frail hand in a moment of fear, when you wipe away tears of loneliness, you know you are doing more than a mere job. You are saving a life, preserving dignity, and humanizing suffering.  The gratitude you will receive for it is immediate, real and often poignant. Indeed, they are few other lines of work where you will receive the sense of satisfaction and purpose that you get in care.

And there has never been a better time than 2021 to be a part of the care sector. Here’s why we say so:

 Demand for Fresh Talent

The COVID-19 pandemic has created a powerful demand for talent in the care industry. Carers have been at the forefront of the ongoing pandemic. As key workers, they have continued working throughout the three national lockdowns. Care homes are scouting for quality carers who can fulfil the ever-growing national need (Quality carers do not necessarily mean experienced.) Care sector is not famous for its high remuneration. But in this time of crisis, Eleanor is providing highly competitive salary packages, flexible contractual hours, and free trainings. This means that you have an ideal moment to join the sector, when the competitive criteria are slightly lowered, and benefits are raised. This window of opportunity, however, may soon close as the vaccine gives the long-over-due boost to the sector.

New Market Dynamics

BREXIT has created a bad news/good news situation for the care sector. The bad news is EU passport holding carers might have to renegotiate their right to work in the UK in 2021. Potentially, it could lead to an exodus of EU carers back to their countries of origin, which would burden the sector even more (Read about it here, here, and here).

The good news, however, is that it will create even more roles to be filled in the UK, not just for cares but also managers, administrators, and other support staff. This could mean rapid career progression, higher pay, and better benefits in the new, post-BREXIT Britain.

Transferable Skills

We dedicated an entire post about transferable skills you can use to enter the care sector. Read here. If you feel your job is not secure or if you have already been made redundant, care sector might be a great option to consider.
